James P. Garlick

Senior Vice President, Operations

Current position

James Garlick was named Senior Vice President, Operations in 2006. Garlick oversees Mirant’s fleet of 10,112 megawatts of generating capacity. He is responsible for directing all plant operations, maintenance, safety and health, environmental compliance and technical support functions. He is also responsible for all plant capital projects for the company including engineering, construction and supply chain.

Previous Mirant positions

2005–2006: Vice President, Operations. Responsible for all plant operations of Mirant’s diverse global generation portfolio consisting of 17,414 megawatts in the United States, Caribbean and the Philippines. Drove initiatives to improve plant performance, cross-fleet opportunities and best practice sharing.

Career before Mirant

2003–2005: Vice President, Supply Operations, Allegheny Energy Supply.
Responsible for all aspects of power production for Allegheny’s generation
portfolio, consisting of more than 11,000 megawatts of coal, gas, oil and
hydro generation.

2000–2003: Vice President, Production Services and Projects Division, Allegheny Energy Supply. Responsible for providing centralized business and technical services for Allegheny’s generation fleet. Led a $2 billion construction program including the commissioning of new gas-fired generation, environmental compliance projects, and other major capital and maintenance projects for the fleet.

1998–2000: Director, Human Resources, Allegheny Energy Supply Company. Responsible for employee relations, safety and health, rewards program and organizational development activities for this subsidiary of Allegheny Energy.

1995–1998: Regional Plant Manager, Allegheny Power. Responsible for regional operations, maintenance and performance including safety, reliability, environmental compliance and employee development activities.

1991–1995: Manager, Power and Facilities Construction, Allegheny Power. Responsible for construction of additions, modifications, and major maintenance of power stations and other facilities.

1982–1991: Allegheny Power. Held various engineering positions in construction and maintenance.
