Our 12 generating plants produce as much as 10,097 megawatts of electricity — enough to power about 10 million homes — for wholesale and large retail customers. These plants are supported by our risk management and marketing operations in Atlanta — services that help us optimize plant efficiency and cost management.

Diversity is a major strength of our portfolio:

  • Roughly half of our units are baseload and intermediate units. Baseload units are used to meet the minimum power requirements for customers.
  • Intermediate units are designed to meet demand above baseload requirements to address daily or seasonal fluctuations.
  • Peaking units — generating plants operated only during hours of the day or at certain times of the year when demand for energy spikes — account for a portion of our portfolio.
  • Approximately half of our plants can be switched from one fuel type to another (oil, gas, or coal), enabling us to better manage our business in the midst of fuel price volatility.

We go where the opportunity is. Our assets are located close to large metropolitan areas where demand for energy is high: San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Boston and New York City.
